With becky's help, I figured it out.
I had my MTAmazon code in the entry body, but I hadn't installed the
"ProcessTags" plugin or added " process_tags="1"" to the templates.
Becky's suggestion was good: doublecheck. I reinstalled MT and plugins.
No go. (Darn it, I didn't export my blog first, lost my only comment
ever [thanks, Becky!].)
I gave up earlier this morning, and deleted all my MT Amazon files
(saving them to my home machine). Then I noticed my ProcessTags plugin
file folder, and bingo, I realized I'd forgotten that was what made MT
process the MTAmazon tag inside the entry body. Now, after installing
ProcessTags and reinstalling MT Amazon, MT Amazon works like a charm.

Thank you!
